Final Project: Cycloconverter As Single Phase AC Motor Controller
(Cycloconverter Sebagai Pengendali Motor AC 1 Fasa)

Abstract:

This paper introduced a design a cycloconverter, namely an AC to AC converter that changes the frequency of the input voltage directly as a single-phase AC motor control application. In the design of this final project, the 1 Phase AC motor used is a universal motor type for sewing machine applications, the main control is regulated through the ATMega16 microcontroller as the center for controlling the power circuit. This tool is equipped with an LCD display, push button and a cycloconverter power circuit, to drive the single-phase AC motor
Cycloconverter is a power converter for a fixed frequency AC power source which will be converted to a variable frequency AC power source.
In general, the design of a cycloconverter as a 1-phase AC motor controller consists of seven main circuit blocks, namely: ATMega 16 microcontroller, push button, zero passer detector, LCD, optocoupler isolation circuit, and SCR power circuit.
The test results and discussion consist of testing the ATMega16 microcontroller circuit, push button, zero passer detector, LCD, optocoupler isolation circuit, as well as testing the whole circuit.
Based on the results of designing and testing a cycloconverter as a single-phase AC motor controller, the following conclusions can be drawn: (1) The design of a cycloconverter as a single-phase AC motor controller is carried out by designing systems, hardware, and software, (2) system design consists of designing a series of modules. LCD, push button, zero passer detector, optocoupler isolation circuit, and SCR power circuit, (3) in the design of this cycloconverter has been tested per block and overall testing, (4) cycloconverter as a single phase AC motor controller has been successfully made with control ATMega16, LCD as display, push button as data input, optocoupler isolation circuit as a power block separator and logic block, and SCR power circuit as a universal motor controller single phase AC motor.
